Artist Statement
Danielle is a fine artist who approaches her practice as a painter, regardless of the medium she chooses to realise her work in. She specialises in depicting landscapes, both external and internal, and is currently working to develop immersive, experiential artwork that conveys an acute sense of place.
She began her practice with a focus on large-scale mixed media paintings, creating textural base collages (often embedding local/found materials) before painting in her vivacious signature style using acrylic paint. With time, her interests began to turn away from more literal depictions to atmospheric and sensory interpretations of her surroundings.
Danielle is interested in the specificity of place, the history, the people and the nuances that unravel themselves with keen observation. She begins her process with a close examination of her environment. Extensive documentation is essential to her approach, utilising photography, video and sound to capture her everyday and hone in on key patterns, conventions and characteristics.
Recently, Danielle has been experimenting with new media and expanding her practice, uncovering new ways to delineate her ideas and perspective. She plans to continue painting while integrating these alternate forms, hoping to create narrative work that provides a through line across various media.
