Does Water Carry Memory?

Installation, 2025

This installation examines critical climate issues currently plaguing the Caribbean. Considering the intersections of colonialism, tourism, and the heightened threat that climate change poses to the economy, it presents a personal account of the impact as seen on the islands of Barbados, St Kitts and Nevis during the summer of 2024. The work is developed from a series of documentary photographs, journal entries, audio recordings, and conversations I took from July to August, shortly after the passing of Hurricane Beryl. Notable sites include Oistins Fish Market, Wingfield Estate, Frigate Bay, Port Zante, Cottle Church, Nevis Hot Springs and Bath Hotel. This expanded landscape invites you to come close and sit with its installation, grow familiar with the sights and sounds of the Caribbean.
